Beloeil (Quebec)
Native of Acton Vale in Montérégie, I’ve had a life-long interest in history, especially genealogy and my origins. In the eighties, following several years of preparation, I published a first volume, namely the Colin-Laliberté family history on my father’s side and a second volume on my mother’s side, about the Rivard-Loranger family. Afterwards, I’ve written the history of a dozen families. Simultaneously, I have organized, with the help a few cousins (Paul-Émile Laliberté, Dorès Laliberté, Daniel Laliberté, Lucie Brunelle and Monique Laliberté), family meetings which began in 1975. On October 24, 2015 we will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of those Colin-Laliberté family gatherings.
In 1991, I became a member of the Société Généalogique Canadienne Française de Montréal (9773). I then undertook researches on behalf of various families in the area of Montreal, be genealogy in direct descent from nowadays to the first ancestor who has arrived in the 17th century. To date, I believe I have made researches about approximately 1300 different families of French, British or German origins. All researches were transposed on a pastel-coloured tree designed by an artist named Clarisse St-Jacques de St-Simon (spouse of my cousin Dorès Laliberté).
At the end of the nineties, I began the data entry in order to produce registers of baptisms, marriages and burials in the regions of Acton Vale and Granby. To date, I have published 39 registers that I offer to various societies and libraries in Canada and United States. In 2005, I worked on the 1825 and 1831 censuses, also in the regions of Acton Vale in Montérégie and in the Eastern Townships. Until now, in 2015, as much as 13 works have been published.
I was invited to give several conferences about my works in addition to serving as a volunteer at the Société Généalogique Canadienne Française de Montréal.
As of April 26, 2024, I have produced 50 directories of baptisms and burials,
11 censuses of 1861, 14 censuses of 1765 and 16 censuses of 1825
In the 1825 census, we find the name of the family head, the number of people living in the household, the street or range, children 6 years old and under, men and women from 6 to 14 years old, men 18 years old and over married or not, women from 14 to 45 years old married or not and women 45 years old and over married or not.

As of June 2015, I have produced and published 50 registers of baptisms and burials from Montérégie, Centre-du-Québec and Eastern Townships. This monk’s labor has started in 1998, but technology has changed. There is 4 registers in DOS, 13 in Access and 22 in Word (see examples below).

To begin my research, I need to know the names of your parents and grandparents. That way, I can trace back your ascending line until your first ancestor who arrived in Quebec in the 1600s or 1700s.
My research is certified since I insert the original documents in a binder. I also add to the binder the story of your first ancestor, a story of the Atlantic crossing and a few censuses.
The whole research is then transposed with a pen on a pastel-coloured tree of 11X17 inches. Finally, the process involves a meeting of about an hour during which I introduce my research project to you.
The overall cost of my work is $175

Mr. Michel Laliberté dit Colin has published several works of genealogy over the past 25 years. Whether it be censuses from 1825 and 1831 in Montérégie or in Eastern Townships or registers of baptisms, marriages and burials in the two same regions, those works are innovative.
Many libraries and genealogical societies in Québec as well as in Canada and United States have also appropriated these publishings. Furthermore, a genealogical research of one’s own family is accessible to the general public at a fair price.
As a member of the Société Généalogique Canadienne Française de Montréal (9773), Mr. Laliberté, has always performed his works with great accuracy. Member of the Genealogical Society of the Cantons of EST 4774.
